Gale Holmes grew up on a farm near Minden, Nebraska where his family raised hogs, cows, and a variety of crops. After graduating from high school, he entered the Air Force where he served for 28 years in Aircraft Maintenance. He was stationed at 11 different locations around the world, working on several types of aircraft. He and his family moved back to York, Nebraska after he retired from the Air Force in December 2009. For the next 14 years, he worked at the Pioneer Seed Production Facility in various roles. Following his retirement from Pioneer in 2024, he started substitute teaching at York Middle and High School where he currently works.
In his free time, Gale loves to travel to historical locations worldwide with his daughters, and also enjoys hunting, fishing, and skiing. He has always been fascinated by agricultural practices and how they have improved over time.
As a member of the NRD Board, Gale wants to work with the community to make sure natural resources are used in a way that will allow future generations to benefit from them as well. When asked what he wished more people understood about the NRD, he responded, "I would like more people to understand the programs the Upper Big Blue NRD has that will help improve our natural resources. I encourage people to come to the board meetings if they have issues or just want to learn about available programs and what the Upper Big Blue NRD is working to improve."
